Synopsis
An Illustrated History of Newdigate Colliery Railway, Bedworth, Warwickshire by Mike Kinder, Ray Fox and Peter Lee.
An important aspect of the history of Newdigate Colliery was the connection it had with the Coventry – Nuneaton railway via a lengthy branch line which had some interesting characteristics. Not least for heavy gradients which made the climb away from the canal arm and up to the pit a spectacular performance. The line was built between 1899 and 1900, which closed prior to the colliery but the pit only outlasted it a short time, closing in 1982.
Includes details on the history of the colliery and its railway and information on both steam and diesel locomotives which operated the line throughout its history. Features more than fifty photographs and a selection of maps and scale drawings including the LNWR exchange sidings.
