Synopsis
A Walk Along the Ironstone by Chris Hone. The Oxfordshire Ironstone Company was formed in 1917 and closed exactly 50 years later in 1967. Ironstone was quarried and transported by rail to steelworks in Wales and the Midlands.
The author was able to record the activity of the Ironstone Company in the last months of its operation, and speak with a number of its former employees thereafter.
The story of the company is told within this book, and because the route of the railway line still survives along virtually the whole of its length, it forms an ideal footpath between Banbury and the countryside beyond.
