Synopsis

Halesworth A Suffolk Transport Hub by Rob Shorland-Ball was specially commissioned by the Halesworth to Southwold Narrow Gauge Railway Society. This lavishly-illustrated publication includes colour photographs and maps and is a unique and excellent history of the part played by Halesworth.

It contains references to the importance of the railway in Halesworth in relation to the main line with its links to London and East Suffolk, and the (ultimately-failed) project to join Halesworth to the west via the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway, as well as the narrow gauge branch line to Southwold.

Not neglected is the part played by the River Blyth and the Blyth Navigation in the Halesworth transport story. The Society’s recent reconstructive industrial archaeology work on the original railway trackbed on Halesworth Millennium Green is also referenced and illustrated.
