Synopsis

Railway Reminiscenses by John Davies. John was born in Newtown during 1930, spending the first weeks staying near the main GWR line at Talerddig before returning to Abergynolwyn. It’s little wonder that the author was fascinated by steam trains from birth.

As a young boy John Davies would watch the engines at Talyllyn Railway taking on water above the farmhouse where the family lived. John’s family lived in a small house in the village before this and John was able to observe the incline activity on the ‘Lein Fach’.

The author’s ambition to become a locomotive engineer was realised on his 22nd birthday, starting at Aberystwyth MPD. His career on the railway lasted 17 years covering areas from Aberystwyth to Derby and London to Glasgow, working out of Aberystwyth, Neasden and Crewe.
