Synopsis
The Glyncorrwg Mineral Railway: Was it Parsons’ Folly? by Paul Reynolds.
Robert Parsons and Charles Strange burst on the scene in the remote Afan valley in south Wales in 1837 with ambitious plans to create a major coal mining business. They built a spectacularly engineered railway and opened a number of mines, but their funds were exhausted with the project nowhere near completion.
Cynical locals later came to give the name ‘Parsons’ Folly’ to the whole undertaking. But was it really a folly? This books describes the project and argues that but for one unfortunate mistake it was a well founded scheme.
