Synopsis
The Railways of Biddulph by John Hancock.
“We must not forget that it is a line which has opened up a part of Staffordshire which before was more inaccessible than any other portion of the County”. These words were uttered by J. Lewis Ricardo, Chairman of the North Staffordshire Railway in 1861, and referred to the biddulph Valley Branch line which had been opened to mineral traffic in 1860.
Biddulph, an area of rural quiet and pastoral labour, was to change dramatically after 1861 as Robert Heath developed his coal and iron businesses and the coming of the North Staffordshire Railway.
Illustrated with black and white photographs and maps.
