Synopsis

The Shrewbury to Crewe Line by Bob Yate. The Crewe to Shrewsbury line was conceived in 1853 by the LNWR as a link for its traffic from the north west of England to south Wales, which would link with the independent Shrewsbury and Hereford Railway. In addition there was much agricultural produce from the rich Shropshire countryside to be carried to northern towns.

In 1923 the LNWR was absorbed into the new LMS. With more than 200 images and specifications of infrastructure, locomotive sheds and rolling stock, the book follows the opening and closure of branch lines such as the Tattenhall Branch and the Cambrian connection, before bringing the story up to date in the post-Beeching era.
