Completing the Far North Line by Keith Fenwick. The railway from Bonar Bridge to Wick and Thurso. Building the far north line involved crossing barren country and funding proved difficult, most of the finance coming from the third Duke of Sutherland. Once open, traffic justified only two daily trains, but the railway was a vital lifeline for the community. It has been an essential part of transport in the area for 150 years.
This book traces the history of the three railway companies which built the line. Planning, financing, construction and operation are all described by Keith Fenwick. The branches to Dornoch and Lybster are included. It was operated by the Highland Railway followed by the LMS, British Rail and ScotRail.
