End of a Dream: In a Land Once Roamed by Garratts by John Birkinshaw.

The Garratt was a type of steam locomotive introduced in the early 20th Century by the Manchester firm Beyer Peacock. They were exported to many parts of the world. The Garratt was particularly suited to operations in Africa and the railways of Rhodesia, later Zambia and Zimbabwe, where the photographs in this book were taken, depended heavily on Garratts.

With stunning photographs, this book tells the story of the Beyer Garratt locomotive operations during the latter half of the period of 90 years in which they worked in Rhodesia and Zimbabwe. Most of the images were taken between 1975 and 2018.
