From Forest to Ferry by Keith Hill. The story of the Brockenhurst to Lymington branch line.
The Lymington branch in the New Forest connects to ferry services for the Isle of Wight. The single track line, just over five miles in length, opened in 1858. The London and South Western Railway bought out the local company in 1879, and in 1884 the LSWR opened a short extension of the line to Lymington Pier.
Following a career with British Rail for thirty years, and a keen interest in railway history of the New Forest, Keith is uniquely placed to trace the story of this fascinating little railway.
