Synopsis

From Woodhead to Doncaster: A Pictorial Railway Journey by Fred Abson and Meryl White. This book provides an impressive collection of photographs of the railway network from the eastern portal of the Woodhead Tunnel at Dunford Bridge to Doncaster Plant Works which Fred Abson had taken between 1978 and 1982.

The planned final closure of the Woodhead line in 1981 had prompted him to photograph signal boxes, bridges, crossings and junctions which form the basis of the book, compiled with the support of former railway colleagues and friends.

Fred had recognised the importance of documenting the changes in railway infrastructure along the route of the Manchester, Sheffield and Wath (MS&W) railway line and beyond.
