Llandovery and its Railway by Richard Jones. Victorian drive, engineering skills and entrepreneurship brought the railway to Llandovery – twice; from the south in 1858 and the north in 1868. For one hundred years it was the town’s biggest employer.

In one century its glory days were over. The axe of closure was ready to fall on more than one occasion. There followed a period of neglect and dereliction where once busy stations became unmanned and neglected. The story could have ended there but with the new millennium came some renewal and some hope.

Using archive and modern illustrations, this book tells the story of the Central Wales line by looking closely at just 12 miles of its length, Llanwrda to Sugar Loaf Summit. It is enriched by an informative text based on local knowledge of the author who has known the line all his life and whose immediate family have given 150 years of their working lives in its service.

The book has been self published by the author.
