Peebles Railway Memories by Grahame Hood.
With a great deal of new and previously unpublished information and photographs, Peebles Railway Memories by Grahame Hood provides a history of the railway in the area, which is located just over twenty miles from Edinburgh. The book mainly features the two lines into Peebles, the North British Railway line and the Caledonian Railway branch to the town from Symington. To a lesser extent the branches to Polton, Penicuik and Dolphinton are also covered.
During the 1800s there were several schemes to bring the railway to Peebles including those of Thomas Telford and George Stephenson. However such schemes can be classed as ‘might-have-beens’. The railway finally opened in 1850s with closure in 1962.
This book provides history, details of events and various tales and anecdotes.
