Recollections of the Hatfield Branch by Jon Brindle and Sheila Whittingham. First hand accounts from people who worked on the railways and used them.

Hatfield station was once much larger than today, boasting its own sidings and turntable, and with branch lines that ran to St Albans, Dunstable and Hertford.

This small book lovingly collects the recollections of that golden age of steam. Firemen such as Dennis Beach really did put eggs and bacon on a shovel to fry them in the engine’s fire-box, and Hatfield people regularly took the train to St Albans to commute to work or to do their weekly shopping on a Saturday (along the route that today is the Alban Way cycle track).
