Synopsis

The Final Decade The 1960s Steam Railway from the Paul Hocquard image collection.

Sixty years ago British Railways banished steam engines after a career life dating back to the 1830s. At the same time the image of the railway was changing from that of the common carrier to one where passenger traffic was now the priority. It would turn out to be the greatest revolution in rail transport since Victorian times.

Whilst others stood with their cameras and (fortunately) recorded the trains and especially the engines, Paul Hocquard did much more, seeing not just the train but the whole setting.

At Branchstow Books, we specialise in railway publications. Our particular emphasis is to champion high quality railway books from individual authors and small independent publishers. With this approach, we offer books that are not widely available, and carefully select only the finest books to the extent that each one comes with our recommendation.
