The Longridge Branch Its Signalling and Goods Facilities by Mike Norris.

The Preston to Longridge railway was one of those fascinating short lines found throughout Britain. It served suburban, rural and local businesses. The line was opened in 1840, although its regular timetabled passenger service ceased in 1930, freight and mineral traffic continued until 1967.

Whilst the line’s general story has been documented, the precise way in which it served its various business customers, in the form of the multitude of sidings, and the details of how traffic was managed and signalled, have been largely overlooked. In this comprehensive study Mike Norris has brought togther the complex accounts of the stations, the sidings, goods yards, depots and signalling installations along the route.
