The Malton & Driffield Junction Railway by Warwick Burton.

The Malton & Driffield Railway was, for most of its 105 years of operation, an obscure country branch, linking two secondary lines. Like many such lines it is a ‘main line that never was’. It was conceived as a trunk route linking the coalfields of the North East with the burgeoning port of Hull. Its origins were stormy and construction plagued with difficulties. What is more, it was one of the four original constituents of the mighty North Eastern Railway.

This book provides a detailed history of the line, its stations, the war years, the quarries and details of staff. The line closed to passenger traffic in 1950 with the closure for all traffic in 1958.
