The Manchester Corporation Waterworks Railway in Longdendale by Robert Nicholls and Mike Swift.
A six mile chain of reservoirs were constructed by the Manchester Corporation in the Longdendale Valley during the years 1848 to 1877 in order to supply fresh water to the city.
The Longdendale railway opened in 1871 and closed in 1968. During this time the line operated steam, electric and diesel.
