The Railway Photography of Bernard Brown: The British Railways Scene in the 1950s by John H. Bird.
An all-new 88 page photographic album of evocative historical images, captured by Bernard Brown, who in the post-World War 2 era was a keen and very skilled young photographer, active not only in his native Derbyshire but well beyond too. Bernard had a passion for railways. As a teenager he graduated to photography and spent the princely sum of £12.00 on a decent Kodak camera. It had a fast shutter speed, perfect for capturing moving trains. He was part of the Northern Railfans Club which was prolific in organising rail tours in the 1950s. His particular favourites were the LMR Jubilee class steam locos. Sadley, Bernard passed away in 2024 in his early nineties.
Featuring mainly Steam power, but also Diesel and Electric traction, including veterans from the 19th Century, as well as the most modern trains of that decade, and from every Region of the post-war British Railways network. Journey back now to enjoy those BRilliant ’50s days!
This book has been kindly republished by Anistr following a request from Branchstow amongst others. It features stunning black and white images on very high quality paper. The Railway Photography of Bernard Brown is highly recommended.
