The Railway that Horncastle Built by Chris Bates.

Chris Bates tells the story of the Horncastle branch railway. Promoted and paid for by local people, it opened in 1855 running between Horncastle and Kirkstead on the Boston to Lincoln line, with an intermediate station at Woodhall Spa. The railway was very profitable, and remained independent for nearly 70 years. The branch closed to passenger traffic in 1954 and to freight in 1971. Many people remember it fondly.

This book tells the history of this unique line, and sets out the fascinating memories which have since come to light following a local exhibition. Includes the background of the railway, its construction, how the railway changed the town, information on local stations, life on the line, the fight to save the line, staff and the line today.

Fully illustrated in colour and black and white, many of the photographs have never been published before.
