The Wreck of the Cromer Express by J.E. Connor.
As the nineteenth century drew to a close, the North Norfolk resort of Cromer was becoming a fashionable venue for holidaymakers and was attracting large crowds. To deal with this demand, the Great Eastern Railway decided to introduce a service of non-stop trains to and from London. On 1st July 1897 the ‘Cromer Express’ became a regular feature of the summer timetable.
The Wreck of the Cromer Express covers in detail the Colchester railway accident of 1913. Topics covered include prelude to disaster, the accident itself, tales from survivors, the rescue work, the disruption it caused to the service, signalling and rules, the inquest, the official inquiry, the aftermath and the locomotives and rolling stock.
